PHOENIX — Law enforcement authorities on Wednesday disclosed more information about the shooting that left a 5-year-old girl dead earlier this week.

The girl was accidentally shot by her 9-year-old brother on Tuesday night, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Initial reports said the shooting took place in a neighborhood near Seventh Avenue and Broadway Road.

In a Wednesday update, police said the boy shot his sister with their father’s gun.

When arriving on scene, police learned that the victim had been shot in her home near 500 W. Wier Avenue then driven to the behavioral hospital by family looking for medical help.

The girl was then taken by ambulance to a trauma center where she was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, additional officers responded to the girl’s home in order to secure the crime scene.
