In case Jennifer Lawrence hadn’t already made her love for comfy flats clear, she was photographed on June 3 in flat sneakers that look practically ergonomic. A practical queen.

On June 3 the actor was spotted in a relatively colorful variation on her off-duty uniform of wide-leg pants and flats. She wore a thin long-sleeve red T-shirt with baggy jeans and a pendant necklace and carried an animal-print tote to keep the whole ensemble interesting.

For footwear, Lawrence appeared to be wearing Wales Bonner Mary Jane sneakers, which feature rubber soles and a thick Velcro strap, perfect for a day spent running around busy New York City streets. We maybe wouldn’t call these shoes “quiet luxury,” but they’re certainly a highbrow take on the Mary Jane trend.

If there’s one thing I know about Jennifer Lawrence, it is that she loves a comfy shoe. If it is an option (and even sometimes when it’s not really an option), Lawrence will choose flat shoes over heels any day of the week. Though she hasn’t always made such a practical choice.

Just a day earlier, Lawrence was spotted getting dinner with her friend and fellow actor Dakota Johnson. Ever on-brand, Lawrence wore her alligator leather Lady bag from her favorite brand, The Row, with an oversized black trench coat, black trousers, and, you guessed it, minimalist black slides. In 2024 Lawrence became a low-key unofficial spokesperson for wearing ballet flats all summer. She wore studded ballet flats, jelly ballet flats, and mesh ballet flats, whether they were weather or city-streets appropriate or not.

In 2025 Lawrence now seems to be making a case for a slightly chunkier shoe profile with these Mary Janes. But that doesn’t mean you should expect to see Lawrence in anything resembling a heel any time soon. At least not when she’s off the red carpet.
