Stephen A. Smith, who has teased consideration of a 2028 presidential bid, has signed with SiriusXM to host two original shows, with his daily sports talk show airing on weekdays and plans for a weekly current events, pop culture and commentary program.
As part of the agreement, Smith also will host multiple in-person subscriber events during the year.
Smith announced the venture in an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday morning.
The daily sports show, to debut Sept. 2, will be part of Mad Dog Sports Radio, channel 82, and the other show will be on a non-sports channel to be announced.
Smith said, “To say that I’m excited would be an understatement. I’ve been on Mad Dog before, had the time of my life. So I’m loving the fact that I get to reunite with my guy, Mad Dog, on his turf. That, in itself, is a beautiful thing. But to then add a weekly show where I have a potent platform to discuss riveting subjects in the world of Pop Culture, Politics and Social Commentary…let’s just say it doesn’t get any better than that.
Smith already is a commentator on ESPN’s First Take on weekday mornings, and is joined by Molly Qerim and Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo, the latter of whom headlines the SiriusXM channel. Smith also has been an analyst on ESPN and ABC’s pregame show NBA Countdown.
Smith signed a $100 million, five-year dal with ESPN earlier this year. As he has become an influential voice not just in sports but politics, he said earlier this year that he is “leaving all doors open” for a potential presidential bid, a reflection of the desire among some Democrats to find an outsider to revive the party’s fortunes.
