Eminem’s Music Publishing Company Sues Meta for Unauthorized Use of Music

Eminem‘s music publishing company Eight Mile Style has filed a lawsuit against Meta.

According to CBS News, Eight Mile Style is accusing the tech giant of making the rapper’s songs available without the proper license to reproduce and distribute music. The company is suing Meta for “copyright infringement, inducement of copyright infringement, contributory copyright infringement and vicarious copyright infringement,” as well as earning money from the use of the songs. Eminem himself is not directly involved in the lawsuit.

Meta’s online music libraries supposedly has a total of 243 Eight Mile Style songs for users to put on their posts.

The lawsuit adds that Eight Mile Style and Meta were unable to negotiate the license as part of the latter’s agreement with Audiam, a firm for digital music royalty collection. Em’s company allegedly touched base with Meta regarding the supposed copyright infringement, with Meta since removing “several of the Eight Mile compositions from its music libraries.”

Eight Mile Style is seeking $150,000 USD per song and per platform. It’s also asking for a court order to stop Meta from unlawfully distributing the songs.
