A video of a homeowner making a “jackpot” discovery beneath a carpet in her home has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared by Anna (@tippyandpeashouse) and has amassed more than 248,000 views since it was posted on May 21.

The video begins with a view of a worn-out carpet on a floor overlooked by an open door.

Text overlaid on the video says: “When we first viewed this house the estate agent said there might be something special hidden under this carpet…”

I was actually terrified to pull this carpet up incase he was wrong! I need to hire a sander! #renovation #renovationproject #reveal #housemove #fy #homedecoruk #victorianhouse #periodproperty

“So let’s find out if he was right,” the text continues as a woman is shown pulling the edge of the carpet up from the floor to reveal what lies beneath.

As the carpet is fully peeled back, the video reveals “mosaic parquet flooring ready to be restored,” as noted in the overlaid text.

The caption shared with the post says: “I was actually terrified to pull this carpet up in case he was wrong! I need to hire a sander!”

The global flooring market size, estimated to be valued at $360.7 billion in 2024, is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.8 percent from 2025 to 2030, according to a report by Grandview Research.

“Increasing demand for aesthetic, superior, and durable floor covering solutions and changing consumer trends in floor design have aided the growth of the flooring industry over the past few years,” the report said.

“The U.S. flooring market is driven by a strong housing market, high consumer spending on home improvement, and rising demand for premium products.”

The viral TikTok post comes as the median spend on renovations surged in recent years from $15,000 in 2020 to $24,000 in 2023—a 60 percent increase, according to a 2024 survey by Houzz, a home design website. More than half of those surveyed reported spending $25,000 or more in 2023, up from 37 percent just three years earlier.

‘Jackpot’

Viewers on TikTok were amazed by the incredible flooring found beneath the carpet in the viral clip.

User @ourlifeatno25 said “what a great find” and renovatorsbynight said “Omg jackpot!!!”

Very LT Interiors noted: “Oh wow. I bet that will come up lovely Anna x”

Charlotte & Rolo the Hound agreed, noting “Oh wow that’s a great find! It will be lovely when restored!”

Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
