The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2025 NFL season with potentially just one more opportunity to run it back with their main core. Travis Kelce decided to come back for another year after last season’s disappointing loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.

While Kelce is back for another season, he is 35 years old, and retirement has started creeping into the conversation.

To this point, he has made no announcement about how long he plans to play. However, the Super Bowl loss playing a big factor in his decision to retire suggests that he might have ridden off into the sunset had the Chiefs won.

Ahead of the 2025 season, there are a lot of different opinions flying around. When it comes to Kelce specifically, many believe that he’s due for regression this year.

John Kosko of Pro Football Focus has revealed his tight end rankings for the upcoming campaign. Kelce saw some disrespect in those rankings, coming in at No. 7 on the list.

He noted that age is becoming a clear problem for the Kansas City star.

“While Kelce has been the second-most-valuable tight end over the past two seasons, per PFF WAR, 2024 represented the lowest-graded season of his career (71.7),” Kosko wrote. “Age looks to be catching up to the future Hall of Famer, as his 91.4 PFF overall grade from 2022 appears to be a thing of the past.”

Last season with the Chiefs, Kelce played in 16 games. He caught 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns. His 823 yards were the lowest of his entire career.

Throughout his entire 174-game NFL career, all with Kansas City, Kelce has racked up 1,004 catches for 12,151 yards and 77 touchdowns. He has also helped lead the franchise to three Super Bowl wins.

Recently, Chiefs’ superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke out about Kelce’s NFL future.

“If it’s the last ride, you would never know, the way he’s (Travis Kelce) talking about football, the way he’s talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year,” Mahomes said. “He doesn’t seem like a guy that is (saying) it’s his last round or he’s tired of the job. He’s in here, working, and I know his body feels good. I think it feels better than even last year before going into last season, just because I think he’s motivated to go out there and have an even better year than he had last (year).”

Kansas City will kick off the 2025 season with a Week 1 showdown on Sept. 5 in Brazil against the AFC West division rival Los Angeles Chargers.
