MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall will be vying for a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2026.

A campaign announcement video was posted online on Thursday morning, titled “Alabama Strong,” announcing Marshall’s intention to run for U.S. Senate.

The senate seat will be left vacant by Alabama U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, who announced this week he will be running for Governor. Governor Kay Ivey is in her final term as Alabama’s governor, meaning that seat will be open in 2026.

Marshall is term-limited as AG, meaning he cannot run for that position again. In December, Marshall announced he would not run for Governor.

Another candidate running for Tuberville’s spot in the U.S. Senate is former U.S. Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, who runs the anti-human trafficking organization, Covenant Rescue Group.

A potential candidate is Mo Brooks, who served six terms as U.S. Rep. for the 5th Congressional District, which includes Huntsville. Brooks, who was initially endorsed by Donald Trump, lost his U.S. Senate bid in a runoff against Katie Britt in 2022.

Brooks said he is considering his options, and his decision will be shaped by the field of candidates who emerge by the time qualifying for the seat takes place.

The primary election in 2026 will be held on May 19.
