Red Sox Insider Responds to Calls for Alex Cora’s Job

The Boston Red Sox took another loss on Tuesday, falling to the Milwaukee Brewers after a walk-off grand slam from outfield veteran Christian Yelich.

After a blockbuster offseason that included several win-now additions like Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler and Alex Bregman, the Red Sox have been a disappointment so far. The season has been marked by clubhouse drama surrounding franchise slugger Rafael Devers, notable steps back for several younger players like Jarren Duran and poor performances throughout the pitching staff.

As Red Sox fans grow frustrated, some have pointed at manager Alex Cora as the main source of the problem. Recently, “Painting The Chat Podcast” on X called for Cora to be fired before the team’s upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves.

“(Wednesday) could (should) be Cora’s last game as manager,” the account posted.

Responding to that call, Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo of MassLive issued a clear assessment of Cora’s job security at this point.

“Eight weeks into a three year contract,” Cotillo wrote. “He’s not on the hot seat as of now.”

This was not the first time Cotillo has weighed in on Cora’s future with the team as frustrations with the underperformance continue to grow. The manager signed a three-year extension with the team last summer and he seems to have some time left to turn things around.

But as the losses mount, both in the record book and in the team’s relationships with players like Devers, it’s becoming clear that something needs to change. Cotillo predicted that some kind of shakeup could be imminent, even if it’s not a parting of ways with Cora.

The team could call up top-ranked prospect Roman Anthony, cut a struggling player or make another change to the coaching staff soon.
