Bears’ Caleb Williams Receives More Harsh Criticism from Cam Newton

The Chicago Bears are set to enter their second season with quarterback Caleb Williams under center. After taking him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the franchise may very well have found the long-term quarterback it has been looking for in recent years.

Recently, a report broke about Williams that stated he didn’t want to be drafted by the Bears. In fact, he wanted to go to the NFC North division rival Minnesota Vikings.

Hearing that news was shocking to many fans, reporters, and analysts. However, he was taken by Chicago and he is the new franchise quarterback.

Williams has been receiving a lot of criticism following the report. Instead of being willing to play anywhere and be the No. 1 pick, he considered trying to force his way where he wanted to go. At the end of the day, he decided not to rock the boat and to play for the Bears.

Cam Newton has not taken well the report. He has been very vocal with his criticism for the young quarterback.

Now, he has come out again and doubled down on his criticism.

“We are living in the golden era of entitlement, and I hate that for sports as a whole, right, whether it’s the parent or the player… it’s more to that than what the story entails, basically,” Newton said. “Now, you may not like the words, but behind what Boomer Esiason is saying is some truth, and that’s a lot of merit to the thinking of how a lot of guys who have came through this league are in the league, feel about guys coming in to the league.”

For those who have not yet heard about Boomer Esiason’s take about Williams that Newton was referring to, he had even more harsh criticism for the young quarterback.

“The level of entitlement is breathtaking,” Esiason said. “Keep your mouth shut. You’re going into the greatest league that there’s ever been for the sport we all love. You’re going to have a chance one day to make $500 million because guys like me and guys before me all went on strike so you could actually make more money. So keep your piehole shut and go out and play football and earn your keep and earn your respect.”

Williams played a solid rookie season for Chicago. He completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, while running for 489 more yards.

While the 23-year-old quarterback has been showing huge potential, the story breaking about how he conducted himself leading up to the draft has hurt his reputation.
