A suspect was arrested in connection with the death of a 4-month-old baby in Riverside County.
The death occurred on Aug. 23, 2024, when Riverside County deputies responded to reports of a baby who was not breathing at a home on the 2000 block of Whispering Bells Road in San Jacinto.
Authorities performed life-saving measures and the baby was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Several injuries were also found on the infant’s body.
The child’s condition began deteriorating and six days later, the baby was pronounced dead.
With information provided by the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau, an investigation revealed that the infant died “as a result of homicidal violence,” the sheriff’s department said.
Nine months later on May 23, Alejandro Cuevas, 40, of Beaumont, was identified as the primary suspect in connection with the baby’s death. Investigators said Cuevas was an associate of the child’s family.
He was arrested for murder and booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility. No further details, including the circumstances leading up to the infant’s death, were released.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call Investigator D. Sandoval of RSO’s Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
