The San Francisco 49ers made two big moves with their own players this offseason. First, they extended the contract of George Kittle. They followed that move up more recently with a lucrative contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy.
Kittle received a four-year, $76.4 million deal from the 49ers. He has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL recently and was more than deserving of getting paid for it.
Purdy, on the other hand, brought much more media coverage. The two sides struggled to figure out a deal for a while, leading to rumors and speculation about his future. However, when all was said and done, they agreed to a five-year, $265 million extension.
With both of those contracts done, the focus can now shift back to football. Purdy and Kittle will be looking to get back on track after a rough 2024 season that saw the team finish with a 6-11 record.

Everything went wrong for San Francisco last season. From poor play to injuries, the 49ers never got going.
Ahead of the season, Purdy has made a notable change. Kittle opened up and revealed what that change is and what he has noticed about the 25-year-old quarterback.
“One thing I’ve already seen from Brock this offseason, just being back around for all of [the offseason program] and stuff, is just his voice is heard significantly more in the building, which I love,” Kittle said. “Whether he’s breaking down the team, talking in the locker room. He’s always kind, he’s always nice to everybody, but he’s just more vocal to everybody in team settings, which is huge.”
During the 2024 NFL season, Purdy had a rough year. He played in 15 games, completing 65.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Heading into the 2025 season, the 49ers’ offense will look a little different. Deebo Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders. He has been a constant target for Purdy since he came into the NFL.
All of that being said, taking on a bigger leadership role will be very important for Purdy and San Francisco. He’s being paid like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he needs to take his game to another level to live up to that price tag.
Everything will kick off for the 49ers in Week 1 with a difficult matchup on the road against the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 7.
