HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Alabama A&M band has been invited to perform at the 2025 Pepsi National Battle of the Bands.
This will be the third appearance by the Marching Maroon & White at the event, which honors the musical excellence and cultural impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The band first performed in 2015, when the event was known as the Queen City Battle of the Bands in Charlotte, and returned in 2022 after it relocated to Houston.
“I am very excited to be selected to be a part of this prestigious event,” said Alabama A&M Director of Bands Carlton Wright. “It is one of the premier marching band events in the country. Our students are thrilled for the opportunity to perform, to travel, and to connect with their peers from other outstanding bands.
Alabama A&M will be joined by seven other bands including the following:
- Albany State University
- Florida A&M University
- Jackson State University
- Langston University
- North Carolina A&T State University
- Prairie View A&M University
- Texas Southern University
The Marching Maroon & White, known as the “Showband of the South,” performed at the 2025 Honda Battle of the Bands at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. In 2023, the band also participated in the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 23, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
