A South Carolina couple was arrested after police uncovered a shocking scene of filth inside their home — where their 8-month-old was found living among a decomposing goat carcass and 47 unkept animals.

Parents Kayla Renard and Nicholas Foley were taken into custody Monday after the state’s Department of Social Services alerted authorities to the nightmarish and unsanitary conditions inside the Honea Path residence, according to the Honea Path Police Department.

Police discovered numerous raccoons, rabbits, dogs, cats, and chickens inside the squalid home, which was littered with animal feces and waste. The rotting goat remains were found in a bathtub, cops said.

“Just the amount of feces and ammonia, it was very, very difficult to breathe,” said Anderson County PAWS Director Dr. Kim Sanders, whose staff safely rescued the neglected animals, WYFF reported.

“When we were there, there were no bowls for water. It was just absolutely disgusting and just really depressing for my staff and myself. It’s just hard to see animals in that kind of condition.”

Photos from inside the hellhole revealed multiple dogs confined to crates stacked on top of each other, with maggots crawling in food bowls and trash strewn throughout the putrid residence, the outlet reported.

Police stated they had never encountered such “horrific” living conditions in over 30 years of service.

“Just seeing the animals in that condition, it was evident that they’ve not been out of those crates for quite some time,” Sanders added, noting that the helpless pets wouldn’t have survived much longer.

“Even just the living conditions for any human, while that’s their choice, for the animals, it was not their choice. This one was tough, and knowing there was an 8-month-old baby in there as well is just – I can’t comprehend.”

The infant was also removed from the home and placed in the care of a relative, police said.

“This child is OK,” Chief Christopher Miller assured, the outlet reported.

“The child was in pretty good condition for the unsanitary condition of the house.”
