A disturbing incident unfolded Tuesday at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside when a group of adults barged onto campus to attack a student, leaving both students and staff shaken.
The violence began earlier in the day with a typical schoolyard fight between two male students but the conflict escalated dangerously when one of the students called in family members for backup. Authorities say several adults arrived at the school and stormed past campus security, initiating a second brawl.
Witnesses say as many as 20 people poured onto campus. When staff intervened, they too were assaulted. One administrator was reportedly thrown to the ground and placed in a chokehold.
The attackers fled before police arrived, but the student they targeted was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Two campus supervisors were also hurt during the altercation.
Parents and students are outraged, questioning why the school wasn’t locked down and why no alerts were issued during the chaos. Others voiced concern over the potential for more serious harm if the intruders had been armed.
In a letter to families, the school acknowledged the failure of security protocols and promised swift changes. Administrators followed the trespassers and contacted law enforcement, who are now investigating.
The district has pledged to review safety measures and increase campus security presence.
