The Washington Commanders are looking to start the 2025 NFL season off strong after making a run all the way to the NFC Championship game last year.
Led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders put together a run that no one saw coming. At the start of the season, they weren’t even viewed as a top-tier playoff contender.
Despite the surprise, Washington was a legitimate Super Bowl-caliber team. In 2025, the team will try to build on that success and take it to the next level.
Ahead of training camp and preseason action, there is a situation to keep a close eye on. Terry McLaurin is going to need a new deal at some point in the near future, but in the meantime, he opted not to show up to offseason workouts.

Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz made the report about McLaurin.
“All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin was not at practice today as offseason workouts continue. He had been a full participant previously and is entering the final year of his contract,” Schultz wrote on X. “Worth monitoring as Phase 3 of Washington’s program kicks off in under a week.”
McLaurin was the go-to target for Daniels last season. Without him on the field, the Commanders’ offense would take a huge step in the wrong direction.
During the 2024 season in 17 games, McLaurin racked up 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. There is no way for Washington to replace that kind of production.

Add in the fact that the Commanders went out and acquired Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers to pair with McLaurin, the team clearly needs to work something out with the 29-year-old star.
Heading into the 2025 NFL season, McLaurin will be playing in the final year of his current deal if no extension is worked out. It seems very likely that Washington will get something done with him before the year gets underway.
Throughout his career with the Commanders, McLaurin has played in a total of 97 games. He has caught 460 passes for 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns. In that time period, he has been one of the most underrated players in the NFL.
Hopefully, the two sides will be able to work something out quickly without any kind of tension rising.
