MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — On May 15, Marshall County Schools broke ground on a new multi-million-dollar elementary school.

On April 24, the Marshall County Board of Education approved a construction bid for a new KDS DAR Elementary School, awarded to First Team Construction, for $21,776,400.

According to MCS, the current elementary school building is at 123% capacity. Because of this, the school system said it is time for a new space that reflects this influx.

“It’s time for a new space that reflects the excellence of this community—a safe, modern campus where students can grow, teachers can thrive, and the proud history of DAR is honored every step of the way.  We appreciate the support of the Marshall County Commission and for the passage of a shared sales tax, which is funding this project,” MCS said.

Marshall County Schools Superintendent Cindy Saye Wigley said that the groundbreaking for this new school is a new chapter for everyone.

Below is a rendering of the new school.

“[The] groundbreaking of the KDS DAR Elementary School marks an exciting new chapter for our students, families, the Marshall County Board of Education, the DAR, and the entire community. This moment represents more than just construction—it’s a symbol of growth, opportunity, and our shared commitment to the future of our children,” Wigley said.

Below is a clip of Wigley answering questions about the new school, courtesy of Marshall County Schools.

She concluded her remarks, saying that while they are building a school, it is deeper than that. “We’re building dreams,” Wigley said.
