The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off a season that ended abruptly but was a success to many. They made the playoffs after an unexpected 2023 season thanks to a much-needed makeover in the coaching department.

The attention has now shifted to building the best possible team in 2025 and making a real run at the Lombardi. While free agency and the NFL Draft are on the back burner, the Chargers still have options to bolster the roster. One option is via trade.
The Chargers’ secondary remains a work in progress, and acquiring an All-Pro corner like Jaire Alexander could be a season-altering move. With his future in Green Bay uncertain, a fresh start in Los Angeles might benefit both Alexander and a Chargers team looking to solidify its back end.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen believes Alexander could be a significant upgrade for the Chargers’ secondary. In fact, Bowen identified Los Angeles as the most ideal landing spot for the talented defensive back.
“The Chargers signed Donte Jackson to a two-year deal and Benjamin St-Juste to a one-year contract this offseason. However, if Alexander is available in a trade, he would be seen as an upgrade in Jesse Minter’s defensive system. The Chargers are zone heavy, playing both single-high Cover 3 and split-safety schemes. Alexander has the play instincts and foot quickness to match routes, and his transition speed allows him to make plays on the ball. Alexander has intercepted 12 passes and broken up 57 in his career.”
While Alexander’s future in Green Bay is uncertain, the Packers have shown no indication of wanting to move on from him. The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the best and shutdown corners in the game. In his career, the Pennsylvania native has been named to the Second-team All-Pro and is a two-time Pro Bowler.
The Packers selected the former first-round pick with the No. 18 overall pick out of Louisville.
The Chargers’ defense, specifically the secondary, was night and day from the previous season. They ranked just outside the top 10 in defensive yards average at 324.4. Their lone playoff game was a different story, but throughout a 17-game season, they were much more consistent.
Los Angeles aims to contend this season and challenge the Kansas City Chiefs for AFC West supremacy. It’s no easy feat, but adding a player like Alexander would bring them one step closer to closing that gap.
