MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — In a special-called meeting on Friday, the Madison City Council decided on a plan for renovations at Toyota Field.
Discussions regarding renovations at Toyota Field began back in November 2024. The city was required to construct a new clubhouse for the visiting team to comply with MLB standards. Further, MLB asks for designated areas for women umpires or women affiliated with any of the teams. This allows the current visitors’ clubhouse to become an area for women.
The council has been debating three options for renovations since November 2024, and after nearly three hours of discussion during Friday’s meeting, the council landed on option 2. The plan will put a one-story addition in left field.
“We decided to go forward with a one level base facility that had the ability to build more on in the future, and move forward with that and then maintain the status quo with the current multi-level story,” said John Seifert. He is the council president.
He said this decision checks all those boxes, while also leaving room for future renovations.
“We’ll be able to be compliant, maintain relations with Ball Corps and with Major League Baseball and continue to see Toyota Field really be the engine for Town Madison and driving a lot of our tax revenues and things that we need that help that come in as part of that,” Seifert said.
Seifert said the project will cost $8 million.
“Ultimately, option two is $8 million out the door,” he said. “We approved 820 of that 8 million today. The remainder of that, a portion can be done and we’ll be done with cash in-house. The city already has the remainder portion. We’ll look to likely get a loan with a local bank that could help us get this through.”

The city council president also said that he expects construction to start around October and hopes it will all be finished by April 2026.
