President Donald Trump has publicly responded to the news that his daughter Tiffany Trump has had her first child by saying he was on his way home to see the baby, as he wrapped up a business-focused visit to the Middle East.
Newsweek contacted President Trump and Tiffany’s mother, Trump’s ex-wife, actress Marla Maples, for comment via email on Friday outside usual working hours.
Why It Matters
As reported by Newsweek, Trump has been in the Middle East on a four-day high-profile diplomatic tour of key nations in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, meeting with Emirati investors, and promoting U.S. business interests.
While much of the trip focused on economic development and global partnerships, the president took a moment to speak personally on family matters.
Trump expressed joy over the family milestone during a press appearance in Abu Dhabi.
“It’s been a tremendous time, and now it’s time to go back home. My daughter had a baby. I’m going to go back home and see that little baby,” he said. A video of his announcement was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by Rapid Response on Friday.
What To Know
As reported by Newsweek, first daughter Tiffany Trump announced the birth of her baby on Thursday, writing on X and Instagram: “Welcome to the world our sweet baby boy, Alexander Trump Boulos.”
“We love you beyond words! Thank you for coming into our lives,” the new mother added in the caption, alongside a black and white photo of one of the baby’s feet.
The X post has since had over 1.4 million views and 72k likes.
The baby is the first child of Tiffany, 31, and her husband, businessman Michael Boulos. The couple married in a ceremony at her father’s Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, in November 2022.
Trump’s comment marked his first public acknowledgment of the news. While known for his combative political tone, Trump has often shown a softer side when speaking about his children and grandchildren.
Tiffany is Trump’s second daughter and fourth child. With Tiffany’s baby, Trump now has 11 grandchildren.
What People Are Saying
As reported by Newsweek, the president announced his youngest daughter’s pregnancy to the public last October while he was running for the presidency as the Republican nominee.
While delivering a speech at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump said: “She’s an exceptional young woman. And she’s going to have a baby. So that’s nice.”
Marla Maples posted a picture of her and Tiffany as a baby on Instagram on Thursday prior to the birth with the caption: “Reveling in the beauty of motherhood … This dance of life that brings so much joy and purpose. Watching my special girl prepare to become a mother, my heart overflows. Soon, she will hold her own child in her arms and experience this eternal love.”
What Happens Next
The president is expected to return to the United States in the coming days, where he said he will focus once again on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and talks with Iran. It remains unclear whether his work/ travel schedule may be adjusted to spend time with his daughter and new grandchild.
