Kirsten Dunst has signed to star in Self Help as a woman, lost in L.A. and life, who gets sucked into a far-reaching conspiracy theory after she witnesses a hit and run.
With L.A. in flames, tensions mount and bodies pile up as she plays detective, she finds herself caught between a shady real estate tycoon and a dubious wannabe actor.
Self Help marks the feature directorial debut of Flora Birnbaum, a 2017 Sundance New Voices Fellow. She recently served as a writer and co-executive producer on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, with additional writing credits on FX’s American Crime Story: Impeachment and Netflix’s Russian Doll, which earned her two WGA award nominations.
Birnbaum previously created, wrote, and directed the digital series Cleansed, which premiered at SXSW.
Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez Productions is producing. Founded in 2014, its film credits include Josh Greenbaum’s Will & Harper, Todd Haynes’ May December, Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s Theater Camp, Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers, Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart, and Leslye Headland’s Bachelorette.
Paris-based mk2 Films is handling international sales. UTA Independent Film Group and WME Independent are representing North America.
