EXCLUSIVE: Ben Kelly is exiting his Director of Unscripted role at Netflix UK & Ireland after six years at the streamer.
Kelly has been one of Netflix UK’s key commissioning leaders, building out its unscripted slate alongside Daisy Lilley with shows such as Too Hot to Handle and Love is Blind.
There’s no word on the next move for the well-liked exec, who is credited internally for building Netflix’s unscripted team and building its reality TV slate in the UK, working under Anne Mensah, VP of Content.
He initially joined as Manager of Nonfiction Series, as Deadline revealed in 2019, and was made responsible for ordering global formats out of the UK. The TalkbackThames-produced dating show Too Hot to Handle was a major success, running to multiple seasons and leading remakes in five countries to date, and, more recently, CPL Productions’ Love is Blind: UK, was recommissioned for a second season.
However, not everything he touched at Netflix was a hit, with Deadline revealing in 2023 that another dating series, Snowflake Mountain, had been cancelled after a single run.
He had joined from UK network ITV, where he was a commissioner who handled shows such as Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, The X Factor and comedy clip format Zone of Champions. Prior to that he was a producer and showrunner on shows including I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Big Brother and Million Pound Menu.
