After clearing the air with Aimee Lou Wood, Sarah Sherman has expressed regrets over her impression.
The Saturday Night Live star recently admitted she feels “terrible” about her impersonation of the White Lotus actress last month on the NBC sketch comedy show, having since sent flowers as a peace offering.
“I was excited to play her because she’s so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I f—ing obviously never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings,” Sherman told Vanity Fair. “Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset. I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.”
After Wood called out Sherman‘s “mean and unfunny” impression of her character Chelsea, the British actress shared an update the following morning that she received “apologies from SNL.”
“But whilst in honest mode – I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo,” wrote Wood on her Instagram Story while explaining recent comments that she felt ugly. “(Felt righteous might delete later x)”
In the sketch ‘The White POTUS‘, the cast used a parody of the recent Thailand-set Season 3 to make a few swipes at the Trumps, while also poking fun at Chelsea with Sherman in a pair of buck teeth. The impression comes after Wood expressed how exhausted she is of talking about her teeth.
Wood added in her response on Sunday, “At least get the accent right seriously, I respect accuracy even if it’s mean.”
“So, to conclude today’s rant: @hbo – kind and supportive and never wronged me so leave them alone. @nbcsnl – mean,” she wrote.
“Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago,” she added. “Yes, take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”
The Sex Education alum has since received “thousands of messages” of support. “On a positive note, everyone is agreeing with me about it so I’m glad I said something instead of going in on myself,” she wrote.
The NBC sketch comedy show has also since apparently felt the pressure. “I’ve had apologies from SNL,” she concluded the saga in one last Insta Story with a cheeky filter, before sharing a photo of the “beautiful flowers” Sherman sent her.
