HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The week is forecast to end on the hot and humid side for the Tennessee Valley. Along with the heat and humidity, storm chances will make a return.
An upper-level ridge will continue to build east across the Deep South on Thursday. At the same time, a low will continue to develop in the northwest corner of the United States. The ridge of high pressure will allow for hot air to build into the Southeast.
A southerly wind will allow for a continuous flow of warm air and moisture into the region. Highs are forecast to the upper 80s to nearly 90 degrees both Thursday and Friday. Even at night, it will stay warm with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Though temperatures will be above normal for this time of year, they will be just below records. The record high for Thursday and Friday for Huntsville is 94 and 95 degrees, respectively.
Friday – Saturday Storm Chance
A cold front is forecast to track through the area by Saturday morning. This front will bring the return of scattered rain and isolated storms to the region. Winds will also be gusty outside of storms.
The Storm Prediction Center has the area highlighted under a ‘Marginal Risk’ (level 1 out of 5) for the development of strong storms. As of Wednesday evening, the best chance for these stronger storms to develop will be late Friday evening into Saturday morning.
Storms that develop will be capable of producing strong winds over 50 mph, frequent lightning, locally heavy rain, and hail. The chance of storms is forecast to continue into the weekend as the front stalls over the area.
