(NEXSTAR) — It’s been more than a decade since NBC’s “The Office” aired a new episode, and just over two decades since it came to U.S. televisions as a spin-off of a popular British show of the same name.

While fans of “The Office” have hardly forgotten about the show – it remains one of the most-streamed, no-longer-on-air offerings – they’ll soon have something new from the same universe to enjoy: a mockumentary dubbed “The Paper.”

Rumors, followed by confirmation, about the new show have been circulating for months.

“The Paper” will follow a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, and its publisher, played by Domhnall Gleeson. He has played roles in “Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker,” “The Patient,” and “Alice & Jack,” and will co-star alongside Sabrina Impacciatore of recent “The White Lotus” fame.

The show will also feature a familiar face from “The Office”: Oscar Nuñez, who will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez. That part was actually not supposed to be released yet, but reports began surfacing earlier this year about his involvement.

“My hope was that the first promo or the first piece of footage it would be a surprise,” Greg Daniels, who adapted the U.S. version of “The Office” and is an executive producer for “The Paper,” said. “It’s very difficult to keep a surprise nowadays…”

His name wasn’t listed in the script, and there was “extreme secrecy” about his role in “The Paper,” Daniels explained on a recent episode of “Office Ladies,” a podcast hosted by “The Office” cast members Jenna Fischer and Angela Martin.

Daniels noted, however, that “The Paper” is not a spinoff for the character of Oscar.

“It’s more the show of the documentary crew looking around for something else to do a documentary about and finding this newspaper that has fallen on hard times, like most newspapers, and does not even have a budget for any reporters.”

While we’ve got an insight into what the show will be about and the cast, the exact air date hasn’t been released. NBC confirmed Monday that it will air exclusively on Peacock, its streaming service, in September.

For now, you’ll have to settle for reruns of “The Office.”
