A San Bernardino County mother was arrested after deputies found two toddlers who had been left at home alone.
On May 11, San Bernardino County deputies responded to a home on the 7000 block of Archibald Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga after a neighbor reported hearing children crying inside.
Deputies arrived and heard crying and screaming from inside the residence. They knocked for several minutes, but nobody opened the door. Concerned for the children’s safety, they eventually forced their way inside.
Two children were found in the home — a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old. One of the children had been locked inside a bedroom.
No adult was located at the scene. Shortly after, the children’s mother, Jacquelyn Michelle Viotto, 39, returned to the residence, authorities said.
Investigators later determined that Viotto had left her children unsupervised for approximately two hours. San Bernardino County Children and Family Services responded to the scene and took custody of both children.
Viotto was arrested for child abuse with possible great bodily injury/death. She was booked into the West Valley Detention Center. No further details were released.
