A little less than three months after Caitlin Clark became the all-time leading scorer in the history of NCAA women’s basketball, she left the University of Iowa to begin her highly anticipated WNBA career.

From becoming the No. 1 overall pick on the Indiana Fever to winning Rookie of the Year to then watching NFL playoff games with mega-star Taylor Swift, Clark has kept busy this past year while still preparing for her sophomore WNBA campaign.

The basketball star spoke on her budding friendship with Swift among other offseason activities in her rising stardom in a conversation with ESPN.

Clark spoke to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou on what it has been like in the limelight and how her and Swift bonded over their love of the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I think what people don’t always realize about people with a certain spotlight, whether it’s her, whether it’s me, whether it’s another professional athlete or a pop star, we’re real people,” Clark said regarding Swift. “We’re just having normal conversations as any other person in Arrowhead Stadium that night. She loves the Chiefs just as much as I do. I’m talking football with her.

“She loved it, and just like her passion, and honestly, probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever been around. And everybody says that when you meet her, but it’s really true. She just treats everybody with the same amount of kindness, and her family was great.”

A dominant WNBA season that snapped a seven-year playoff drought for the Fever was deserving of a break this offseason, but by no means is the 23-year-old taking her foot off the gas.

She told Philippou how her upcoming WNBA campaign will be filled with much more confidence than her rookie year thanks to the work she has been putting in behind the scenes.

“That’s where I’m going to find my confidence coming into this next season,” Clark said, “is just knowing I’ve been consistent, and whether it’s been the weight room, whether it’s been my skill development, my shooting.”

Fever head coach Stephanie White also remarked on the progress the reigning Rookie of the Year has been making.

“She’s far beyond her years in terms of her understanding of how to work,” White said. “Oftentimes you see rookies, even the great ones, where it usually takes three years for them to figure it out. She’s got it figured out.”

The offseason of working, recharging, and rubbing shoulders with some of the most notable artists of this generation may soon prove to be the perfect combination for another dominant year from No. 22.
