Half a faction no more. Helldivers 2’s newest threat, the Illuminate, just got a big upgrade. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios added three new Illuminate enemy types on Tuesday, alongside a major new weapon customization update and sweeping balance changes.
In addition to the existing Voteless, Overseers, and Harvesters, Helldivers will now face a more diverse lineup of Illuminate enemies, including the:
- Stingray, jet fighters that provide Illuminate support from above and rain down “devastating strafing runs”;
- Crescent Overseer, which can barrage Helldivers who are taking cover;
- Fleshmob, a failed Illuminate experiment composed of Voteless parts — basically a Frankensteined fusion of zombie body parts that gives the squid-like aliens a new tank.
Arrowhead teased “sightings of other, even larger ships” reinforcing the Illuminate army, but were withholding details.
To counter these new threats, Helldivers 2 is getting a new weapon customization feature “for the bulk of our primary weapon offerings,” Arrowhead said. “Most primary weapons now have levels that are achievable by completing missions, which then in turn unlock new attachments obtainable through Requisition.”
Through weapon customization, players can tweak Helldivers 2 weapons’ level of precision, ammo capacity, muzzles to optimize weapon performance, and cosmetics.
Patch 01.003.000 for Helldivers 2 also rolls out a long list of balance changes on Tuesday, affecting dozens of weapons, multiple stratagems, and a handful of enemy types, all of which you can read about in Arrowhead’s official patch notes on Steam.
