PHOENIX — Those who are preparing to enter the labor force in Scottsdale or Tempe might be in luck. The Valley cities earned themselves spots in the top 20 best places to start a career in 2025.

WalletHub, which published the rankings on Monday, evaluated 182 U.S. cities using 25 different criteria that fell under two key aspects, professional opportunities and quality of life.

The cities were then scored out of 100 on how ideal they were for people entering the job market.

Scottsdale was the highest-ranked Arizona city, clinching a spot at No. 16. Tempe came in at No. 18.

There were other cities from the Grand Canyon State on the list. However, they did not do as well and were spread throughout the top 100 cities: Chandler was No. 31, Phoenix was No. 44, Gilbert was No. 56, Mesa was No. 67 Mesa, Tucson was No. 77 and Glendale was No. 89. Peoria was the lowest-ranking Arizona city, coming in at No. 129.

Scottsdale earned itself an overall score of 55.98 and ranked 27th for professional opportunities and 16th for quality of life.

Meanwhile, Tempe had a total score of 55.42, ranking 56th in professional opportunities but seventh for quality of life. The city also nabbed fifth for the highest percentage of individuals aged 25 to 34 in its population.

The cities of Chandler, Phoenix, Gilbert and Mesa ranked higher than Tempe for professional opportunities but fell short when it came to quality of life.

Previously, Scottsdale has earned high ratings from WalletHub, which ranked it the eighth happiest city in the U.S. as well as the most pet-friendly city in America.

The city that earned the title of worst place to start a career was Pearl City, Hawaii.
