Bella Hadid Debuts New ‘NYC Blonde’ Hair at Cannes

Recession indicator or just cool for the summer? Bella Hadid just rolled up to the Cannes Film Festival, presumably to promote her new project “being a gorgeous supermodel,” with her hair lighter than we’ve seen it in years. A far cry from the platinum or bottle-blonde look favored by Sabrina Carpenter or Kim Kardashian, this is a subtle and, dare we say it, expensive look that probably involved hours and hours of meticulous highlighting. The result is a shade that glows in direct sunlight but looks much more natural in shadow.

For her arrival in France, Hadid wore a white denim bustier top with reflective sunglasses, gold jewelry, and an airy white scarf tied jauntily around her purse handle. Tres tres!

Anyone else getting kind of a Millie Bobby Brown vibe from these pics? Which prompts the question: Does Bella Hadid want to play Britney Spears? Stranger things have happened.

This isn’t the first time Hadid has played around with fairer hair hues. She experimented with honey blonde in 2023 and 2022 and 2021, and rocked a caramel ombré in 2019. she even did a dip-dye pink thing back in 2016, because it was 2016 and that’s just what one did.

Hadid typically gets her hair colored by celeb-loved colorist Jenna Perry, whose blowout NYC studio Jenna’s on Ninth reopens later this week. Perry has dubbed a number of her blonde creations NYC Blonde, which, like “expensive blonde,” is a more subdued take on what can be a pretty showy shade. I guess the real question is—is it still NYC Blonde if Hadid is in France?

The festival kicks off tomorrow, and while Hadid will no doubt wear something fabulous on the carpet, she won’t be able to replicate her sheer dress moment from last year. Not only is nudity now prohibited under the event’s famously strict dress code, long trains are also banned, probably so attendees will stop fighting with ushers over how long it takes them to arrange their outfits for pics.
