Dog trainer Jennifer Fraser began teaching her Australian shepherd, Chardonnay, to jump onto her back a few years ago. Fraser rewarded Chardonnay with a treat or her favorite toy each time she succeeded.
Now, Fraser said, “jumping across backs is just one of her many skills.”
The payoff of the training came in June, when Fraser decided Chardonnay, 4, would try for a world record for the “most jumps between people by a dog in one minute.”
In the outfield of a baseball park in Alberta, 56 people made a straight line and bent over so their backs were flat. Chardonnay, who weighs 37 pounds, hopped onto the first person’s back and kept going.
By the time her feet touched the field again, she had raced across each person, finishing in about 16 seconds. Chardonnay hopped into Fraser’s arms and celebrated.
Guinness World Records announced the achievement on social media Sunday. But Fraser thinks Chardonnay could jump across more than 100 people in a minute.
“We’re looking at breaking it again,” Fraser said.
