Summary

  • CITIZEN unveiled the Super Titanium™: The Beauty of Time exhibition in NYC
  • The immersive exhibition celebrates 55 years of titanium innovation
  • It highlights a nine-pod art installation made of colored titanium plates

Last week in New York City, CITIZEN lifted the curtains to its new traveling exhibition, Super Titanium™: The Beauty of Time, celebrating 55 years of groundbreaking innovation in titanium watchmaking. This immersive showcase highlights CITIZEN’s continuous and dedicated research into the remarkable material, with the exhibition shining a spotlight on the core attributes that define this advanced material.

The exhibition is thoughtfully designed to create a cohesive and engaging experience for visitors. It seamlessly integrates various sensory elements. Captivating visuals and evocative soundscapes combine with the display of the timepieces themselves. This holistic approach reflects the harmonious balance that CITIZEN strives for in its watchmaking. It showcases the intersection of precise mathematical principles with the delicate artistry and inherent tension in crafting fine timepieces.

At the heart of the exhibition lies a striking and thought-provoking art installation. Featuring nine distinct pod-like structures, this centerpiece is meticulously constructed from around one thousand individual titanium plates. Each plate measures 50mm x 25mm and is presented in a spectrum of nine distinct colors. The arrangement of these plates forms an intricate lattice pattern, designed to interact dynamically with ambient light. As reflections shift and subtly evolve, the installation generates a compelling sense of depth and transformation — visually reinforcing the ever-changing beauty inherent in Super Titanium™.

In addition, the installation also boldly incorporates experimental 1:2 ratio plates. These plates were utilized in the rigorous testing of new surface treatments. This inclusion directly underscores CITIZEN’s unwavering commitment to ongoing material innovation. It also highlights their dedication to pushing the boundaries of modern watchmaking.

Take a look around the exhibition in the gallery above and visit the special webpage on CITIZEN’s website for more information.
