In Game 1 of the series, Washington struck first on a second-period goal from Aliaksei Protas, his first of the playoffs, in what would end up being the only goal they’d score. The Capitals managed just 14 shots on goal, and only one of those was from the NHL‘s all-time leading scorer, Alexander Ovechkin. Goaltender Logan Thompson had a solid game, stopping 31 of 33 shots, but ultimately took the 2-1 loss in overtime.
For Carolina, the series couldn’t have started any better. Logan Stankoven tied the game at 1-1 at 9:42 of the third period on an assist from Jesperi Kotkaniemi, with Jaccob Slavin ending the game just 3:06 into the first overtime period. While the ultimate goal is getting a victory, the way they handled Washington was even more impressive, outshooting them 33-14, killing both power plays, and outhitting them 44-31.
This is a great NHL Playoff matchup that will not disappoint; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
