HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Meet Lena W. Andrews, a Tennessee Valley author with over 17 published children’s books.

Andrews is a former student of East Limestone and she never strayed far from her roots, continuing her education at Calhoun Community College, then later at Athens State College. She would go on to work for NASA, retire, then take on a new endeavor: writing!

At 66-years old, Lena has written 17 books to date, most geared towards children. Not only has she written tales, but she encourages children to write themselves with her published journals.

Lena tells us she is an Evangelist through Hozanna Ministries, channeling her faith through her works.

But it’s not just her religion inspiring her stories. Andrews says News 19’s & Day to Day’s meteorologist, Ben Smith inspired her book “What Birds Can Teach Us” and a journal of the same name. She cited his weekly segment “Ben on the Go”, where he shows off photos he takes during his weekend adventures, a majority of those featuring the Tennessee Valley’s eagle population.

You can check out Lena’s books during a book signing event May 10. That’s happening at 654 Discovery Drive, NW in Huntsville from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

You can find a full list of her books here.
