Motown legend Smokey Robinson an and his legal team are speaking about a civil lawsuit by four of his former employees.
The 85-year-old singer/songwriter told the Daily Mail that he is “appalled” by the allegations and added that he couldn’t speak further about the situation.
On Tuesday, the employees, all woman, filed a complaint accusing him of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence and creating a hostile work environment.
In a statement to KTLA, Robinson’s lawyer Christopher Frost called the allegations “false” and “vile.”
He also called the press conference Robinson’s accusers held earlier this week a “media circus.”
“We ask anyone following this case to reserve judgment as the evidence comes to light and all the actual facts of the case unfold, he continued. “We will be addressing the numerous aspects of the complaint that defy credulity as well as issues relating to purported timelines, inconsistencies, and relationships between the plaintiffs and others.”
Frost said they plan on asking the court to “dismiss the lawsuit.”
He also said they plan on asking the court to “address that in their statements to the press about Mr. Robinson, the plaintiff’s attorneys have reached beyond the bounds of liberties that even lawyers are typically allowed in this context.”
“We will have more to say on this matter, as we fiercely defend our clients against these false allegations and work to protect their good names,” the statement concluded.
Each of the plaintiffs was employed as a housekeeper at the Motown legend’s Chatsworth home, with incidents ranging from 2007 up until April 2024.
They each accuse him of forcefully touching their “entire bodies, including their vaginas, breasts, legs, abdomen, lips, and face” and clam that they did not consent to Robinson’s “sexual contact or touching.”
They are seeking $50 million in damages.
No criminal charges have been filed against Robinson.
