Donald Trump‘s attack on the Emmys this morning was predictable.
Last week, 60 Minutes was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy for their October interview with Kamala Harris. That’s the same segment that is the source of Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit against CBS, claiming that they purposely edited the interview in a way to boost Harris’ election chance.
Calling the nomination a “total slap in the face to anyone who believes in truth and honest journalism,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Did 60 Minutes and its Corporate Parents apply to get an Emmy for an illegally falsified interview, or did other Fake Outlets nominate them for this dubious ‘honor’?”

Trump sued after Harris was shown giving a different answer to the same question on a preview of the 60 Minutes segment shown the day before, on Face the Nation.
In the interview, correspondent Bill Whitaker asked Harris her why Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not listening to the Biden administration.
Harris replied, “Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region. And we’re not going to stop doing that. We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”
CBS and 60 Minutes, though, say there was nothing deceptive about it: The first part of Harris’s answer was shown on Face the Nation; the second on 60 Minutes.
Many legal experts see Trump’s lawsuit, alleging violation of a Texas consumer law, as dubious, especially given First Amendment protections. But as Paramount Global is seeking regulatory approval for its merger with Skydance, company attorneys have been in settlement talks with Trump’s team.
The Harris segment was nominated for outstanding edited interview. A spokesperson for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which administers the Emmys, did not immediately return a request for comment. The awards will be handed out on June 25.
Trump has previously attacked the primetime Emmys — given out by the sister organization Academy of Television Arts and Sciences — for not awarding The Apprentice, calling the ceremony “dishonest.” His attacks came up during one of his debates with Hillary Clinton in 2016, when she said, “There was even a time when he didn’t get an Emmy for his TV program three years in a row and he started tweeting that the Emmys were rigged against him.”
“Should have gotten it,” Trump said.
