Talking about death and dying can be a daunting exercise for some. But for others, it is empowering. Whether because of financial concerns or the pandemic, many Americans are rethinking what they want in their end-of-life care. But few know where to start.

No question is too basic: Why do funerals cost so much? Is cremation bad for the environment? What is a death doula? Are you interested in learning about alternative options, such as green burials? Do you need information on wills or advanced directives?

The New York Times wants to hear your questions. Or, if you’ve recently lost a loved one, what do you wish you had known? We’ll use your submissions to help guide our coverage.
