On Tuesday, gymnast Simone Biles and Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens are celebrating their second wedding anniversary, which made Monday’s Met Gala 2025 the perfect site for an unforgettable date night. Biles, the most decorated US Olympic gymnast in history, has walked the carpet in the past, but 2025 marked Owens’s debut. To celebrate, the couple wore downright regal custom outfits, hers from Harbison Studio and his from Nigerian brand Deji & Kola, which they paired with complementary watches from Audemars Piguet.

“The first year [of marriage], we were actually long-distance. The second year, being together for the most part has been really special because we didn’t get that first year together,” Biles told Vanity Fair as the couple prepared for the big night. “It’s just being in each other’s presence one day at a time, and just enjoying and embracing the moments that we do have together, because we are so busy and our schedules never really come together to do events like this. So we’ve been super lucky this week to do the Kentucky Derby and now the Met Gala together.”

Owens and Biles were both excited about the theme of this spring’s Costume Institute exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and the night’s dress code, Tailored for You. “It’s so cool to be able to have the opportunity to attend this one,” Biles said. “As soon as the theme came out, I said, ‘I wanna go to that one so bad!’”

Owens said his white suit was inspired by the Black history on display in the show. “I’m just putting the emphasis on fine tailoring and Black excellence,” Owens said of his look. “It’s a bit of a modern take on the Harlem Renaissance. I have fringe on the end of my hands and on my feet, so it just gives a very royal look.” He said he was also looking forward to seeing how others would interpret the theme. “I’m excited to see Colman Domingo tonight. He truly embodies dandyism year-round, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he wears on fashion’s biggest night.”

Before hitting the carpet, Biles said she was most excited by the color of her taffeta minidress with a cathedral-length train, which featured intricate metallic floral embroidery and 3D appliqué, as well as a pearl-colored satin collar. Harbison Studio, a brand founded by designer Charles Harbison in 2013, described the color as capri blue, and Biles noted its similarity to one recent viral object.

“My color is very vibrant. It’s just a very bright blue,” she said. “It’s like the Saratoga water bottle!”

Biles accessorized with a matching pair of Aquazzura platforms and an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Mini featuring a frosted gold case and bracelet. “Mine is obviously petite, packed with a punch, and I feel like that’s a great representation of myself and my personality,” Biles said of the timepiece. “So that’s why I love it.”

Owens complemented his wife’s look with a couple blue accessories of his own, including a Margot McKinney Atlantic pendant, which featured a pearl drop and a 119-carat aquamarine surrounded by diamonds. His Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar was stainless steel with tone-on-tone blue dials.

Biles said she was eagerly anticipating catching up with friends and fellow Olympians Serena Williams and Miles Chamley-Watson. “I’m always excited to see Serena, just because I love her and we are always having good chitchat,” she said. “As well as Miles. We’re pretty good friends.” (Naturally, all three of them, plus Owens, were photographed together inside the event, with Biles and Williams appearing deep in conversation.)

Even though it was going to be Owens’s first time at the Met Gala, he said he was feeling calm, while Biles said she was panicked. “I just get so anxious about getting there,” she said. “I think it’s the same in gym. Like, I don’t panic that much, but I just get super nervous. But then, as soon as I raise my hand to salute and step onto the floor, or get out of the car and step onto the red carpet, I’m calm and everything is seamless.”
