SPOILER ALERT: The following reveals major plot points from CBS‘ The Equalizer series finale.

In a shock to The Equalizer fans, it was revealed late Friday that the Queen Latifah-led series would end as CBS decided not to order a sixth season. Tonight’s episode, “Decisions,” originally the Season 5 finale, will now be the CBS show’s series finale.

With the future of the show uncertain, the cast and crew shot the episode with a conclusion that wraps up the series perfectly. Everything came down to a one-hour-long adventure, and in true The Equalizer fashion, Robyn McCall’s (Queen Latifah) life was hanging on the precipice of life and death, as was her true love, Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles).

But let’s go back to the beginning.

After many seasons of will they or won’t they, Robyn and Dante have finally found their way into each other’s arms. Everything is on course, that is, until it is revealed that someone is following the lovebirds, who are checking out of big city life to spend some time alone on a romantic getaway in a cabin in the Poconos.

No sooner did they start getting comfy when they received a surprise knock on the door. Who could it be? The pair looked concerned that their work had followed them to the woods. Fortunately, they are met by curious neighbors who saunter into Robyn and Dante’s love nest. The happy couple opted not to get a cabin with all the bells and whistles, and they feel entitled to indulge in some of the amenities Dante splurged on.

Neither Dante nor Robyn opted to use their real names when introducing themselves: Robyn chose Tracy Sloane, the same name she gave Dante when they first met, and Dante went with Mike Lowrey, Will Smith’s Bad Boys film franchise character’s name. The neighbors poured themselves some wine as Robyn and Dante tried to figure out how to get them to leave.

Elsewhere, Harry Keshegian (Adam Goldberg) discovers that the baddy of the episode is Angel Salazar (Juan Javier Cardenas), who’s been trailing Robyn and Dante. Adam and his wife, Mel Bayani (Liza Lapira), attempt to reach the couple to warn them, but the cellphone service is spotty and they can’t get through.

With the nosy strangers finally returning to their budget accommodations with no jacuzzi, Robyn and Dante finally have time to check out how soft the bed is in their bedroom. A knock on the door reveals the neighbors are back, well, just the husband at first. He seems to have forgotten something when they visited earlier, but seconds later, a bullet strikes his head from Salazar’s men. #RIP

A gun fight ensues as Dante goes into the woods solo to face Salazar’s army.

Elsewhere, Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) is at home with her man, Captain Curtis Martin (Christopher B. Duncan), who is visiting, and things are heating up. As someone who doesn’t like anyone cooking in her kitchen, Aunt Vi hid all her best knives and pans, leaving out some not-as-good tools for the Captain to use. Over glasses of wine, he asks Vi to move in with him, much to her surprise and fear.

Delilah (Laya DeLeon), also oblivious to the chaos, gave her Aunt the house for the day, opting to attend a book signing to meet one of her favorite authors, played by Natasha Rothwell. They share tea and discuss how Howard University, the author’s alma mater and Delilah’s dream school, rejected her because she was arrested at a protest.

Back in the Poconos, Adam and Mel make their way into the cabin, surprising Robyn, who is trying to figure out her next move as Dante has disappeared and could be injured or worse. Salazar’s crew captures Robyn, who is willing to give up her life in exchange for Dante; however, she has no idea if he is alive or dead. Once on Salazar’s turf, she finds the annoying and obnoxious baddy who is all up in her face, but at least she reconnects with Dante, who survived but is badly injured.

Just as she thought her life was over, Harry and Mel arrive in a blaze of glory. Salazar runs into the woods for safety, but Robyn is tailing him. Out of bullets, Salazar and Robyn pivot to a knife fight in a battle of wits. Eventually, Salazar is gutted like a fish, and zero tears are shed.

Robyn returns to check on Dante, who is a bit worse for wear, but not so badly that he can’t get on one knee and propose marriage. Before she can say anything, her almost fiancé collapses. They rush him to the hospital, where he is rushed into emergency surgery in the intensive care unit. Luckily, he makes it through and eventually wakes up, waiting for Robyn to give him an answer.

Awwwww. Of course, she says yes!

Delilah reveals that Kara, the author, is on Howard University’s admissions board and will appeal Delilah’s application. If everything works out and she’s officially accepted, Delilah will attend the school of her dreams.

Later, dressed in a stunning light blue ensemble with sparkling appliqués, Robyn welcomes her loved ones to her home, where she and Dante are hosting an intimate engagement party.

Between Robyn’s engagement and her daughter’s plans for higher education, Aunt Viv is reconsidering her decision not to move in with the Captain. The deal is, they find a place together to call home.

And they all lived happily ever after…
