A Florida mom set out to teach her daughter a life lesson but received heartwarming wisdom instead.
Ana T (@anacf93) shared a clip on TikTok where her 5-year-old explained how two girls in her class said her hair “stinks.”
The bullying was heartbreaking for Ana to hear. “It hurt my mom heart,” she told Newsweek. “She has the most beautiful curly hair, but it’s different from the hair the rest of the girls have in her class, so some comments have been made. To see your child sad or dealing with any negativity is always hard.”
But as she begins to guide Pico on how to respond—by letting others know they’ve hurt her feelings—the lesson flips.
Instead of confronting the bullies, Pico tells her mom: “I basically said, well, I like your headband, I like your hair, I like your shoes, I like your dress, I like your earrings.”
The mom was stunned and praised her daughter for her mature response. “That’s an even better answer than mine,” she said in the clip.
Ana told Newsweek that Pico had taught her you can always choose to be kind, even when others are being rude or mean.
“It’s easier to respond to negative comments with more negativity, but kindness works,” Ana added.
In the days that followed the bullying incident, Pico came home saying that the same girls who had commented on her hair complimented her dress and jacket, and later her shoes. “Kindness can be contagious,” Ana said.
The clip, which has been viewed more than 1.8 million times, touched the hearts of TikTok users across the world.
Almost 2,500 viewers commented, many of whom praised Pico for what she said to the bullies.
“The articulation, the reasoning and the premium soul positivity. Better than all those kids in front and back,” one user wrote.
“She just said kill them with kindness without even knowing it. Please do not ever change baby girl,” another commented.
“As a mom, my greatest goal is to raise responsible children that know the importance of working hard but, above all, lead with kindness,” Ana told Newsweek. “The world needs more of it.”
