Walton Goggins does not seem ready to talk about his most recent ex-costar. The White Lotus star abruptly ended an interview with the UK Times after the interviewer repeatedly brought up his former scene partner Aimee Lou Wood. “There is no conversation to be had about that,” Goggins told the Times.
After their star-crossed lovers Rick and Chelsea met their fate in the White Lotus season three finale, Goggins and Wood apparently unfollowed each other on social media—leading to rumors of a rift between the two. In the interview, Times editor and writer Ed Potton hit on that seemingly sore subject a few times. First, he asked Goggins if he and Wood had had a falling out. “I’m not gonna have that conversation,” Goggins replied, and two separate publicists urged Potton to move on.
But Potton brought up Wood again in the context of Goggins’s upcoming gig hosting Saturday Night Live. A few weeks ago, the sketch show made headlines for a White Lotus parody that included an impression of Wood the actress found “mean and unfunny.” Goggins had left a comment under the SNL post of the sketch on Instagram—he wrote “Hahahahahhahaha amazzzingggg”—but soon deleted the comment. Potton wondered if, as CNN correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister recently implied, the pair might be preparing to bury the hatchet on live television during his hosting gig.
Goggins was apparently not having it. According to the Times, Goggins sat there “saying nothing” while his British publicist tried to change the subject. “Shall we talk about The Uninvited a bit more?,” she said, directing the line of questioning to Goggins’s recent film with Pedro Pascal. As Potton hesitated, Goggins interjected: “Thinly veiled, my friend. The thing you’re least interested in,” he said. In the story itself, Potton agrees with that assessment: “Frankly, yes. The Uninvited is a decent movie but the more interesting stuff lies elsewhere.”
But out loud, Potton writes, he brought up Wood again—leading to Goggins reportedly “cutting him off.”
“There is no conversation to be had about that,” said Goggins. “Sharing politics on social media — it’s in a vacuum.”
Potton reportedly made one final effort to broach the delicate subject, which was apparently the last straw for Goggins: “What the fuck, Ed!” the actor said. “Come on buddy. Wow.” At this point, a second, American publicist stepped in: “We’re going to end it there,” she said.
Vanity Fair has reached out to Goggins for comment.
