An Inland Empire man was arrested this week after police say he used his neighbor’s WiFi service “to move and trade” child sex abuse images.
Redlands resident Dimas Omar Montoya, 30, was arrested Wednesday at his home in the 100 block of West Colton Avenue.
Detectives investigated Montoya after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), the Redlands Police Department stated Thursday.
A search warrant was served at his residence, where police said they located 1,312 Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) images on various social media and messaging accounts belonging to Montoya, including Kik, X and Google accounts.
The initial tip pointed to Montoya’s neighbors as the suspects, but police cleared them after learning their WiFi service was being used illegally. “Detectives determined that Montoya had been using the neighbors’ WiFi service to move and trade images through the messaging apps,” the Police Department stated.
Montoya was being held at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino. His bail was set at $30,000.
Anyone with further information regarding Montoy or the investigation was asked to contact Detective Dale Peters at [email protected] or call the Redlands Police Department Investigations Bureau at 909-798-7659.
