She couldn’t “calm down.”
Benny Blanco exposed that Selena Gomez got so “nervous” when they had their first kiss that she developed a rash.
“Towards the end of the date, we were just sitting in the living room on the couch and we were playing [the card game] ‘We’re Not Really Strangers,’” the music producer shared during their joint appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Jessie and Lennie Ware’s “Table Manners” podcast.
“And there was a thing where it said, ‘Take a selfie with the person next to you,’ and she got right on my chest and took a selfie.”
It was at that moment, he recalled, that he knew he just had to kiss his future fiancée.
“I kissed her right away, and her heart started beating so quickly, and she started getting a rash on her face … she was so nervous,” Blanco, 37, revealed.
Lennie asked if Gomez was “allergic” to Blanco, prompting him to joke, “She was, yeah. I was so disgusting and repulsive.”
The 32-year-old singer jumped in to explain that she was anxious because she hadn’t “liked anyone in a very long time.”
“So some kisses are for fun and then when you feel something behind a kiss, it’s completely different,” Gomez said. “And I’d been alone for about five years, with the exception of a few s–tty dates here and there, but never felt that way. And I was a little embarrassed.”
Due to her nervousness, the “Only Murder in the Building” actress would also be extremely early for all their dates when Blanco first started courting her.
“Selena’s so insane that when we first started going out on dates, she was so obsessed with being on time,” Blanco said.
“She used to pull up to my house, minimum 20 minutes early, maybe 30 minutes early, and she would wait outside.”
Blanco noted that Gomez didn’t realize he had cameras down the block and could see when she pulled up early.
“Her car would just be parked outside for like 30 minutes, and she would just wait until it was time to come in,” Blanco laughed.
Gomez admitted that neither of them had shared her obsession with promptness until now.
“I don’t think we’ve ever said that out loud to anyone, but it’s so funny,” Gomez said. “It’s just, I don’t know, I was nervous that I really liked him and I wanted to get there and, like, maybe call a friend to pump me up or do my makeup again or something.”
The lovebirds had been friends for years, but didn’t start dating until June 2023. Six months later, they confirmed their relationship on social media.
Exactly a year after taking their love public, Blanco popped the question with a stunning marquise diamond — a nod to the lyrics in one of their first music collaborations together, their 2015 hit “Good For You.”
