A woman has gone viral for showing off an almighty wardrobe malfunction that she only discovered after a full day at work.
Annie Stafford, 29, lives in Melbourne, Australia, and is the founder of business Ford Wardrobe, which offers courses on how to sew.
But despite being a professional when it comes to clothing, Stafford isn’t immune to mix-ups, and in February, she shared a video to her Instagram account @ford_wardrobe speaking about how she had worn her jacket upside down for the entire day.
“I had just gotten home and put all my stuff down from that day, and then I realized the jacket was sitting a bit off, so I went and looked in the mirror and discovered that I had put it on upside down,” she told Newsweek.
And while she had been out for the whole day, she “absolutely” did not notice anyone giving her funny looks—”and if they did, no one said anything.”
“But to be honest, if I didn’t pick up on it I wouldn’t expect someone else to,” she added.
In the clip, Stafford, wearing a dark navy denim-style jacket, tells viewers: “I’ve been at work for the last eight hours. I’ve had meetings, I’ve been professional. I’ve seen people.”
As she speaks, she takes steps back from the camera showing her denim jacket in full, and explains she’s been wearing it “the whole time.”
“Why is it when walking home I notice this?” she said—and then turned her back, revealing the jacket’s collar was at the small of her back: she had been wearing it upside down the entire day.
“That, ladies and gentlemen, is the collar. It should not be at the back, it should be up here,” she said, pointing to her neck.
“I’ve been wearing this jacket upside down for the last eight hours,” Stafford went on. “Do I just dive into my clothes in the morning and not even check? Apparently so.”
Stafford captioned the video, which boasts more than 114,000 likes: “All those years of sewing and THIS is how I left the house this morning.”
She told Newsweek that, as far as she knew, nothing like this had happened to her before, or, “thankfully,” since—and she was shocked by how much attention her video caught online.
“I also find the comments very funny too,” she said, claiming she had received everything from “this is so funny, I’ve done that too,” to “this girl is such an attention seeker, she’s clearly doing this as rage bait.”
Many commenters on the clip, however, decided this could easily be the next big fashion trend.
One Instagram commenter wrote: “I think you pulled it off though,” as another agreed: “You will probably attend the next meeting and see that people have copied you.”
“You wore it with confidence. That’s all it takes,” one user assured Stafford, as yet another declared she was “AMAZING. An inspiration, a fashion icon.”
The fashion market is enormous worldwide, with global revenue projected to reach $880.9 billion in 2025, according to Statista. China generates the largest amount of revenue, with a projected market volume of $276.4 billion projected for 2025.
