A 41-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a “physical altercation” in Pomona last month, officials announced.
The alleged violence unfolded on March 26 in the area of West Holt Avenue and Short Street, officials with the Pomona Police Department said.
Officers were called to the scene on reports of an assault victim needing CPR. The victim, an unidentified male, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that two male adults were involved in a physical altercation at the location,” police said. “During the fight, the victim fell to the ground and was rendered unconscious. The suspect walked away from the location.”
Investigators were later notified by medical personnel at the hotel that the victim was on life support and was not expected to live.
Detectives with PPD’s Major Crimes Unit assumed the case and after a thorough investigation, identified the suspect as Pomona resident Oliver Jacobs Jr.
Patrol officer arrested Jacobs on April 26, a month after the deadly incident.
According to police, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office determined there was enough evidence to charge the 41-year-old with murder.
No additional details, including a motive for the fight or whether a weapon may have been used during the incident, were provided.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-622-1241.
