President Donald Trump‘s approval rating among Hispanics has declined, new polling has revealed.

According to a new CNN poll, the proportion of Hispanic Americans who approve of the Republican has dropped by 13 percent since February, while a second poll has also suggested growing discontent among that group of the electorate.

Why It Matters

Hispanic voters were integral in securing Trump the keys to the White House for a second time. While the demographic traditionally lean Democratic, Trump increased his share of the Hispanic vote from 16 percent in 2016 to 42 percent in 2024.

Meanwhile, Trump’s approval rating is a key indicator of changing public opinion. A sustained backlash to his decisions thus far as president—which included implementing tariffs and imposing a range of executive orders—could persuade him to change course or risk losing political clout or voters. This will be particularly important when voters head to the polls in the November 2026 midterms.

What To Know

According to the CNN poll, 28 percent of Hispanics approve of Trump. When polling was conducted in February, 41 percent of Hispanic Americans approved of the Republican President. So, the proportion of Hispanics who approve of Trump has dropped by 13 percent in two months.

The poll of 1,678 adults was conducted from April 17 to April 24 with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.

Meanwhile, a Pew Research Center poll also showed Trump’s favorability among Hispanics declining.

This poll of 3,589 adults, conducted from April 7 to April 13 found that 27 percent approve of Trump.

It follows Trump receiving sustained negative polling in general. According to an April Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, 39 percent of adult Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the presidency while 55 percent disapprove. In February, 45 percent approved of the president while 53 percent held negative views.

The poll of 2,464 U.S. adults was conducted between April 18 and April 22. It has a margin of error of +/- two percentage points.

However, a March poll released by The Economist/YouGov on Wednesday shows that 45 percent of Hispanic Americans approve “of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as President,” while a slim 52 percent majority disapprove.

What People Are Saying

On Truth Social recently, President Donald Trump touted his record, writing: “We are, together, going to make America bigger, better, stronger, wealthier, healthier, and more religious, than it has ever been before!!! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!

What Happens Next

As his presidency continues, Trump’s approval rating will likely fluctuate. Whether this fluctuation is enough to damage his political standing remains to be seen.
