Gen Z has emerged as both the most supportive and hostile generation toward President Trump, thanks to a dramatic gender gap, a new poll found.

In a considerable split between the sexes, 24% of women under the age of 30 approve of Trump’s performance compared to 45% of young men in the same age range, according to an NBC News survey.

That was the largest gap of any age bracket in the poll.

Still, both Gen Z men and women gave Trump his lowest approval rating of any generation.

By comparison, 49% of millennial men said they approve of Trump’s performance in office, while 40% of millennial women do. Gen X gave the president his highest approval rating, with 56% of men approving of him, compared to 43% of women.

Among the Boomer generation, 50% of men approve of Trump compared to 43% of women.

In recent decades, the youngest generation tends to be the most progressive one. But it also tends to have a comparatively lower rate of voter turnout compared to older age brackets.

During the last election cycle, 42% of young voters between the ages of 18 and 29 cast ballots, according to a study by Tufts University’s Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement. That was a decline from 2020, when more than 50% of people in that age group voted.

On issues, Gen Z men and women diverged pretty dramatically.

A paltry 27% of Gen Z women have a favorable view of the Republican Party compared to 44% of men in that age group, the NBC poll found.

Meanwhile, 45% of Gen Z men have a favorable view of Trump’s approach to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), dwarfing the 22% of women who feel the same way. Additionally, 43% of the men have a favorable impression of Elon Musk, compared to 20% of women in that bloc.

Even on the question of whether there are only two genders, 69% of the men say that’s the case, compared to 51% of the women.

The NBC poll was taken by SurveyMonkey from April 11-30 and questioned 2,230 adults ages 18-29 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
