An investigation is underway after a burglary call led to the discovery of an illegal drug lab in Orange County.
On April 25, Westminster police responded to reports of a burglary at a building near Beach Boulevard and Garden Grove Boulevard at 4 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing several people attempting to enter a commercial building. When officers arrived, the suspects had fled, but police “observed clear signs a burglary occurred.”
While searching the building, authorities found materials and equipment that indicated an illegal drug manufacturing operation.
“Due to the potentially hazardous nature of the scene, the Orange County Bomb Squad, Orange County Fire Authority’s HAZMAT Team, and federal law enforcement partners were summoned to ensure the site was rendered safe,” officials said.
Out of caution, several nearby businesses were evacuated as the hazardous materials team secured the site.
No details on the types of drugs potentially being manufactured were released. It’s unclear who the lab may belong to as detectives search for leads.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective J. Black at 714-548-3835. Anonymous tips can be provided to OC Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-6227 or online at occrimestoppers.org.
