Sanders, once projected to be a top five pick in the draft, watched five quarterbacks get selected ahead of him, and remains on the board going into the fourth round in a stunning turn of events.
While Sanders had been falling in mock drafts leading up to the draft, he was widely expected to be drafted at some point on Day 2. His falling to Day 3 has seemed to lead Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to speak out.

Toward the end of the third round on Friday, Mahomes, a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time regular season MVP, and three-time Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP, sent out a one-word message on social media: “Crazy.”

While Mahomes didn’t provide any context, it would make sense for him to be reacting to Sanders slipping in the draft.
Sanders is coming off a 2024 season with Colorado in which he completed 353 of his 477 passes (74 percent) for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He finished eighth in Heisman Trophy voting, and won the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award.

Sanders was linked to many of the quarterback-needy teams in the draft including the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also linked to teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders, or even the Dallas Cowboys.
Of those five teams, only the Giants and Browns have drafted quarterbacks. The Giants traded up in the first round to select Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart, while the Browns surprisingly took Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round.
Other quarterbacks selected during the first two days of the draft were Miami’s Cam Ward, Louisville’s Tyler Shough, and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Ward was taken No. 1 overall by the Tennessee Titans, Shough was selected No. 40 overall to the New Orleans Saints, and Milroe was surprisingly taken by the Seattle Seahawks at No. 92 overall.
