The first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft are now in the books, folks.
There has been plenty of drama, as is usually the case during the draft. One of the biggest storylines is who HASN’T been selected, as quarterback Shedeur Sanders was surpisingly not selected in the first two rounds.
Some other notable prospects had shocking falls as well. Edge rushers Mike Green, Nic Scourton, and Donovan Ezeiruaku were all widely considered to be first-round picks but lasted until the second.
Meanwhile, a few teams did a great job of adding value in the second round. Now, let’s identify the best three picks from Friday’s first round of action.
37. Miami Dolphins: Jonah Savaiinaea, OL, Arizona
The Dolphins added to the trenches in the first round and did the same in round two.
The team added Kenneth Grant, a talented defensive lineman in the first, and added Jonah Savaiinaea, a powerful offensive lineman, in the second. The interior offensive line was a massive need for the Dolphins, and Savaiinaea has the potential to be an elite guard.
The Arizona product earned a 75.9 Pro Football Focus grade in 2024 while playing both right and left tackle. However, most evaluators expect the lineman to stick at guard thanks to his massive frame and impressive strength. The Dolphins could have a starting guard for years to come, which is great value at this spot.
44. Dallas Cowboys: Donovan Ezeiruaku, EDGE, Boston College
The Cowboys added a talented offensive lineman in Tyler Booker in the first round, and then pivoted to defense in the second, taking Donovan Ezeiruaku out of Boston College.
Ezeiruaku is a supremely talented edge-rusher who earned an All-American selection after racking up 16.5 sacks in 2024. That number led the ACC and had many evaluators predicted Ezeiruaku to be a top-20 pick.
For whatever reason, though, the Boston College product fell well into the second round. The Cowboys wisely ended the defender’s fall, and now will add a starting-caliber edge-rusher to pair with Micah Parsons.
47. Arizona Cardinals: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
Speaking of players who fell further than expected, the Cardinals were able to take Will Johnson with pick No. 47.
Johnson was considered by many to be the best cornerback in this class, other than two-way star Travis Hunter. However, Johnson dealt with injury issues during the 2024 season and only played in six games.
However, if Johnson would’ve entered the draft last year, he would’ve definitely been a top-10 selection. The corner is fast enough to keep receivers in front of him, and isn’t afraid to be physical. Health is a concern, but the Cardinals could afford to take a risk this deep into the second round.
