The merging of hip-hop and electronic styles has seemingly been captivating as of late, with Danny Brown recently popping out at A.G. Cook‘s Coachella set, Kid Cudi and Dom Dolla delivering on an unexpected debut collaboration “Forever” and Aminé sampling UK garage/electronic project The Streets on his latest single. Continuing on the trend, Flume and JPEGMAFIA have reconnected on an unexpected second collaborative cut entitled “Track 1” –which arrives alongside a seven-minute animated video.
Created by James Blagden, the “Track 1” video brings to life the studio session that catalyzed “Track 1” – which also marks Flume’s first release since 2023.
The longtime friends and collaborators (whose previous credits include Flume’s “How to Build a Relationship” and JPEG’s “New Black History”) laid down”Track 1” on one of their first takes, a press release indicates.
“I’m just gonna play a bunch of stuff. You let me know if you like it,” the cartoon Flume tells the cartoon Peggy, who’s sitting in a chair. Each beat the producer plays results in a different effect on the rapper, pulling him inside out, transforming him into a fly and an enormous clown. The final beat the duo settles on takes them on a colorful odyssey through time and space.
